If you’re planning your wedding in East Lothian, I’m guessing you’re already picturing wide open views, peaceful countryside, or maybe even a coastal backdrop for your ceremony. It’s a stunning part of Scotland, and I always enjoy photographing weddings in this area.
I’m Ruth from Ruth Charlotte Photography, and I photograph weddings all across Scotland, including many beautiful days in East Lothian. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who will keep things relaxed and personal while capturing all the meaningful moments, I’d love to tell you a little more about how I work.
Your wedding day should be filled with joy, movement, and moments that make you laugh out loud. That’s exactly what I love to capture. While I’ll always include the beautifully styled and elegant shots you’d expect, I also focus on the fun, spontaneous moments that make your day completely yours.
From confetti chaos to hilarious speeches, from the wild moves on the dance floor to those bursts of excitement when you see each other for the first time, I’m there for all of it. My photography brings out the colour and energy of the day in a way that feels vivid and real.
It doesn’t matter if you’re camera shy or the centre of attention. I work in a way that keeps things relaxed and enjoyable. I’ll give you a bit of direction when it’s needed but mostly I let things unfold naturally so we can capture moments that feel genuine.
Whether you’re planning a tiny ceremony or a huge party with all your favourite people, I’ll help you create a collection of photos that reflects your day as it really was — full of laughter, movement, emotion, and everything in between.
East Lothian is one of those parts of Scotland that offers an incredible range of venues and settings. From historic estates and converted barns to beach ceremonies and village halls, there’s something here for every kind of wedding.
Some of the most popular wedding venues in East Lothian include:
Many couples also choose to get married near the coast, with places like North Berwick, Tyninghame Beach or even Dirleton Castle offering gorgeous backdrops for portraits or outdoor ceremonies. The mix of countryside and coastline makes East Lothian a brilliant choice for weddings that feel personal and connected to nature.

I offer a small range of wedding photography packages designed to suit different needs. Some couples want full-day coverage from morning preparations through to the dancing, while others are planning a shorter ceremony and want a few hours of relaxed, documentary-style coverage. There’s no right or wrong — just what works best for you.
Every package includes:
You can view all the package options on my wedding photography page, where you’ll also find a brochure you can download.
If you’re not sure what you need yet, feel free to reach out and ask questions. I’m always happy to chat things through.
No two weddings are the same, and I never treat them that way. I take the time to get to know you a little beforehand, so I understand what matters most to you on the day. Maybe it’s a special moment with your parents. Maybe it’s the chaos of the dance floor. Maybe it’s a quiet walk by the sea before the ceremony.
Whatever your plans, I’ll work with your style, your timing, and your preferences so the photography feels like a seamless part of your day, not something separate from it.
This is your story, not a set of generic images. I want the photos to feel real to you. Not just pretty pictures, but something meaningful you’ll still want to look at years down the line.
The beauty of getting married in East Lothian is the variety of photo opportunities. We can take a quiet moment away for couple portraits in the gardens of your venue, walk along the coast if you’re near the sea, or even head to a nearby woodland or farm track for a little break from the crowd.
If you’re staying local to North Berwick or Haddington, we might use quiet corners of the town or coastal paths for natural portraits. If you’re further inland, there are some lovely rural backdrops that work really well too — long grasses, open skies, or stone buildings full of texture and character.
We’ll keep everything relaxed and unhurried. Most couples tell me that the short time away for portraits becomes one of their favourite parts of the day. A chance to pause, breathe, and enjoy being together.
If you’re planning your wedding in East Lothian and you’re looking for photography that’s fun, relaxed and personal to you, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
You can download my brochure to see all the packages or get in touch for a chat. Whether you’re ready to book or just want to ask a few questions, feel free to drop me a message. I’ll always reply personally and help however I can.
Wherever you’re getting married — from castles to coastlines — I’d be honoured to photograph it in a way that reflects you.
