Are you looking for newborn photography in North Ayrshire? If so, I’d love to welcome you to my quiet, home-based studio and help you capture this special time with your new baby. I’m Ruth, and I offer natural, baby-led newborn photography for families across Ayrshire, including those travelling from towns like Irvine, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, Largs, Ardrossan, West Kilbride and Beith.
Newborn photography is about slowing things down and preserving those tiny details that change so quickly in the first few weeks. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, these early days are always worth documenting.

My approach is very relaxed. I follow your baby’s lead throughout the session. There’s no clock-watching or pressure to perform. If your baby needs a cuddle, a feed, or a nappy change, we stop and let that happen. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, knowing that there’s no rush and no expectations.
Some newborn photographers use elaborate props and heavy editing, but that’s not my style. I keep things simple and natural so your photos feel real and timeless. I’ll capture your baby’s soft stretches, tiny fingers, gentle yawns, and all the little moments that you’ll want to hold onto.
I’ve worked with hundreds of babies over the past 10 years, and I’m a mum myself, so I know how unpredictable this stage can be. You don’t need to apologise if your baby is unsettled or feeding more than usual. I’ll work calmly around whatever they need on the day.
Newborn sessions take place in my quiet, cosy studio here in Ayrshire. Many families travel from across North Ayrshire for their photos, as the space is easy to reach from towns like Kilwinning, Dalry, Beith, Ardrossan, and Irvine. The studio has soft lighting, comfortable seating, and everything we need to take our time and go at your baby’s pace.
You don’t need to bring much with you. I provide all the essentials and use soft, neutral wraps and blankets so the focus stays on your baby. There are no oversized props or themed setups — just clean, calm images that feel true to you and your family.
If you’d like to be in the photos too, I’ll guide you through it gently. Whether that’s a quiet cuddle, a kiss on the forehead, or a little smile between feeds, I’ll help you feel at ease in front of the camera without ever asking you to pose in a way that feels forced.
If you have older children, they’re very welcome to join the session. I allow plenty of time for sibling photos and know how to keep things calm and relaxed, even when little ones are full of energy or feeling unsure. We’ll capture gentle family moments and real interactions — the things that show your family as it is right now.

You don’t need to dress anyone up or worry about them sitting perfectly still. I’ve worked with lots of young siblings, and I’ll always follow their pace while gently encouraging natural connections between them and the baby.
The best time for newborn photography is usually within the first 5 to 21 days after birth. During this time, babies are often sleepier and curl up more easily, which makes for calm, peaceful images.
That said, I regularly photograph babies who are 3, 4 or even 6 weeks old, especially if families need more time to settle in at home. If your baby is a bit older, don’t worry. The photos will still be beautiful — just a little more expressive, with open eyes and maybe even a few early smiles.
If you’re expecting and want to book ahead, I’ll pencil in your due date and keep things flexible. Babies don’t always arrive on time, and I make sure there’s room in my calendar to adjust if needed.
Although my studio is in Ayrshire, I regularly work with families from right across North Ayrshire. It’s easy to reach if you’re based in Largs, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Ardrossan, Kilwinning, West Kilbride, Beith or any of the surrounding areas. Most people find it a welcome excuse to step out of the house, get some fresh air, and spend a quiet couple of hours focusing just on their new baby.
Newborn sessions often feel like a little pause in the whirlwind of early parenthood. You’ll get the chance to relax while I gently photograph your baby and create a gallery of images that you can look back on for years to come.
Being invited into such an important time in someone’s life is something I never take for granted. I know how full-on those early weeks can feel. You’re tired, everything’s new, and time suddenly moves in a different way.
My goal is to make this part of the experience easy and enjoyable for you. The photos you leave with will be full of the things that matter — connection, warmth, and the quiet beauty of those early days.

If you live in North Ayrshire and are looking for a newborn photographer who will keep things calm, honest and baby-led, I’d love to hear from you.
You can view my newborn gallery, check out my packages, or get in touch to ask a few questions or pencil in your due date. There’s no pressure to decide right away. I’m happy to chat things through and help you figure out what feels right for your family.
