Are you getting married in Edinburgh? Have you searched wedding photographer Edinburgh and landed here? If so, I’m really glad you’ve found me.
I’m Ruth, the wedding photographer behind Ruth Charlotte Photography. I work with couples across Edinburgh and throughout Scotland to photograph weddings in a way that feels relaxed, honest and meaningful. Whether you’re planning a big celebration in the city centre or a small ceremony tucked away in a favourite corner of the city, I’d love to help you tell the story of your day.
Choosing a wedding photographer isn’t just about ticking a box. You want someone you feel comfortable with, someone who gets your style, and someone who blends in on the day without making it feel like a photo shoot. That’s what I do. I focus on real people, real emotion and the small in-between moments that often end up meaning the most.

Your wedding day will go by quickly. The morning nerves, the laughter, the hugs from family, the first dance, and everything in between. My job is to capture those moments perfectly so that when you look back at your photos, you’re right there in the middle of it all again.
I don’t believe in stiff dated poses or making you or your guests uncomfortable. I photograph what’s really happening. Whether it’s a look across the aisle or a quiet moment in the middle of the reception, as well as the fun shots that show just how much everyone is enjoying the day, it’s those little things that make the story yours.
I’ll adapt to your pace, your personality and your style. If you love creative shots, great. If you’re more drawn to simple and classic, I can do that too. It’s your wedding, and your photos should reflect that.

Most people I work with are not naturally at ease in front of the camera, and that’s completely normal. Maybe you’ve been dreading the couple’s photos. Maybe you’re just not someone who enjoys being photographed. I hear that a lot.
That’s why I work in a way that takes the pressure off. I don’t expect you to know what to do or how to stand. I won’t ask you to perform or pose in a way that feels unnatural. I’ll guide you gently when needed, then step back so you can just be yourselves.
We’ll keep things relaxed. I’ll talk you through it, give you space to breathe, and help you forget the camera is even there. Most couples tell me afterwards they were surprised by how easy and enjoyable it actually was. That’s always the goal.
Weddings are joyful, but they can also be busy and emotional. I’m not just there to take photos. I’m there to help you feel calm, supported and present.
I’ll work alongside your plans, your venue and your suppliers to make sure everything flows smoothly. If things run behind, if the weather shifts, or if something doesn’t go exactly to plan, I’ll adapt without stress or fuss. I’ve photographed enough weddings to know how to go with the flow and still get the shots that matter.
Need someone to pin a buttonhole, gather the family for group photos or just give you a moment to pause and breathe? I’m there for all of it. From start to finish, my aim is to help your day feel smooth and enjoyable while quietly documenting everything that unfolds.
I offer a range of packages to suit different wedding styles, from small elopements to full-day celebrations. Whether you’re having a low-key city centre ceremony or a full-on party with all your family and friends, there’s an option that can work for you.
All packages include professionally edited, high-resolution images delivered through a private online gallery. You’ll be able to download your photos easily and share them with family and friends. Full details of what’s included are on my wedding packages page, where you can also download my brochure and compare options.
If you want to see what a full wedding looks like through my lens, have a look through my portfolio. It includes real weddings from across Scotland and shows the natural, storytelling style I bring to every wedding I photograph. If the photos make you feel something, that’s a good sign we’d be a good fit.
Edinburgh is packed with beautiful venues, each with their own character. Whether you’re into grand staircases or wild gardens, there’s something here for every kind of couple. Some of the city’s most popular spots include:

Beyond the city centre, there are some brilliant venues that are favourites of mine. Pratis Barns, near Leven, is a beautiful, rustic venue with bags of personality. Not only is the setting stunning, but the staff and owners are absolutely lovely to work with. The whole day feels well-supported and relaxed, which always makes a difference.
For couples looking for something luxurious and modern, Carlowrie Castle is hard to beat. With its stylish interiors and manicured grounds, it’s a favourite for elegant weddings that still feel personal. It’s close enough to Edinburgh to be convenient but feels like a proper escape for you and your guests.
You don’t need to choose a famous venue to get brilliant photos. Some of my favourite images have come from quiet back gardens, cosy pubs and hidden corners of the city that hold personal meaning. I’ll help you make the most of wherever you choose.
