I’m Ruth, the person behind Ruth Charlotte Photography. I’m a wedding photographer with years of experience capturing weddings across Glasgow, Ayrshire and throughout Scotland. My job is to tell the story of your wedding in a way that feels true to you.
From the big moments to the wee in-between bits you didn’t even realise were happening, I’m there with my camera to capture it all.
Wedding photography should reflect who you are as a couple. It should feel natural, relaxed, and full of warmth and fun. I want your photos to bring you right back to how it actually felt. The laughter, the nerves, the joy, and the full “how is it already 10pm?” blur of it all.

One of the most common things I hear from couples is, “We’re not great in front of the camera.” Totally normal. Most people aren’t used to being photographed all day, unless your job is “full-time influencer” and even then, fair play.
My approach is designed to help you feel comfortable and confident without the pressure of performing. I specialise in fun, vibrant, candid wedding photos in the most relaxed way possible for you and your guests. That means I’ll gently guide you when needed for some of the wedding pictures, but I’ll also blend into the background and let things unfold naturally.
This is also why I sometimes recommend having a second photographer alongside me. It means we can cover your day from more angles, capture more reactions, and pick up on moments you might miss. Like your pal absolutely committing to the dancefloor far too early. Iconic.
My goal is for you to actually enjoy the photography part of your day. By the time we’re finished, most couples tell me they were surprised by how easy it all felt. That’s exactly what I want. Genuine smiles, real emotions, and photos you genuinely love.
Bowfield is a brilliant choice if you want a countryside feel without trekking to the middle of nowhere. It’s in Howwood in Renfrewshire, and it’s described as being around 20 minutes from Glasgow, so it works really well for couples who want an “easy for everyone” venue. (MANORVIEW)
A few things that make Bowfield a proper favourite for wedding days:
Bowfield sits near Paisley and close to Glasgow Airport, which is handy if you’ve got guests travelling in (or if you’re just hoping folk don’t use “it’s too far” as an excuse). (VisitScotland)

The wedding suite is often described as a converted barn with features from its stable days, like exposed brickwork and wooden beams, with a rustic-but-modern vibe that suits loads of wedding styles.
Bowfield lists 22 bedrooms plus 9 lodges, which is ideal if you want to keep your day in one place and avoid the late-night taxi mission. (MANORVIEW)
Their main function suite is listed as up to 80 guests for dining and 130+ for the evening reception, which suits everything from smaller weddings to a proper full dancefloor. (MANORVIEW)
They’ve got an on-site restaurant called The Plumpy Duck (very handy for the night-before meal or the next-day catch-up). (MANORVIEW)
There’s also a health club with facilities like a gym and swimming pool, which is a shout for pre-wedding chill time or a calm-down swim after the chaos. (MANORVIEW)

One of the best things about Bowfield is you can get a real mix of backgrounds without spending half your day travelling around.
A few of my go-to ideas (depending on weather, light, and how much you want to be away from your guests):
If you’re not sure what would suit you best, don’t worry. I’ll help you work out a plan that fits your timeline and keeps things feeling relaxed.
It’s Scotland. If it doesn’t rain at some point, we should probably report it.
But honestly, rain doesn’t ruin your wedding photos. Bowfield is a great venue for unpredictable weather because you’ve got character-filled indoor spaces that still photograph beautifully. (Bridebook)
If it’s wet, we can:
Sometimes the rainy days end up giving the most atmospheric photos. And worst case, your hair and makeup team will be earning their money. Everybody wins.

Choosing a wedding photography package is a big part of planning your day, and I aim to keep it simple and clear. I offer a range of options to suit different wedding styles, timings and budgets.
You can view all of my packages, pricing and details on my Wedding Packages page, where you’ll also find a brochure you can download. Whether you’re planning a full-day wedding at Bowfield or something shorter and intimate, you’ll find an option that fits.
Each package includes professional editing and access to a private online gallery where you can download and share your high-resolution images. Depending on the package you choose, additional options may also be available.
If you’re not sure what you need yet, just message me. I’m happy to talk it through and help you figure out what coverage makes sense for your day.
Over the years, I’ve had the joy of photographing weddings for couples all across Scotland. Every wedding adds something different to my portfolio. The emotional vows, the belly laughs, the “nan’s on the dancefloor” moment, and the quiet wee looks you give each other when you think nobody’s watching.
You can view a selection of my work on my Portfolio page. It’s the best way to get a feel for my style and see the kind of moments I love to capture.
If you’re thinking about booking a Bowfield House Hotel wedding photographer, it’s a great place to start before we chat.
If you’re planning your wedding at Bowfield and you want a photographer who will keep things relaxed, personal, and very much not cringey, I’d love to hear about your plans.
Get in touch through my website or email and I’ll let you know if your date is available. Whether you’ve already booked everything or you’re still in the “500 tabs open and slightly overwhelmed” stage, I’m always happy to chat and help where I can.
